With the aim of reaching out to the moms directly,  Himalaya FOR MOMS range had anexperiential soiree – ‘Because You Need Taking Care of Too’ for mothers, in Mumbai. In order to create the look and feel of the herbs that form the key ingredients of the products, aesthetically crafted experiential zones were created to showcase the variants of the product range – Lavender, Rose and Jasmine. Comprising of natural, safe, effective, gentle and clinically tested products for expecting and new moms, four products were unveiled to ensure mothers skin and nursing care.

UNWINDING EXPERIENCE

The meet-up included a one-on- one interactive session with Ms. Shankar, a mother of twins herself, where moms discussed their specific concerns about skin care during pregnancy and coping mechanisms to deal with the emotional roller coaster one undergoes during pregnancy. As an add-on fun, there were indulgent pampering sessions, like foot massage, manicure and nail art.

TIPS BEYOND SKINCARE

· Remember during pregnancy you need 300kcal extra per day than your usual intake.

So eat healthy and stay active and do not try to lose weight. Post pregnancy, begin a

healthy exercise routine that will help you lose weight in the longer term.

· Mindfulness while eating involves being conscious of the activity you are indulging in.

Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables at every meal. Avoid eating when not hungry or emotional eating.

·  Include Macronutrients that provide energy (carbohydrates, proteins, fats)

and Micronutrients that help in the functioning of the body (vitamins & minerals)

Avoid food that are deep fried or high on sugar or provide excessive empty calories.

· For pregnant women, excessive salt intake increases the risk of PIH (Pregnancy induced

hypertension) that leads to further complications if not corrected. Avoid pickles, papad and salted snacks.

· Drink adequate fluids like water, milk, buttermilk, juices, water ice, ice cream, tender

coconut water, milk shakes. A pregnant and lactating mother should take plenty of fluids

including 8-12 glasses of water per day. Drinking water reduces the risk of preterm labour and some women find that drinking water regularly helps relieve symptoms of morning sickness, acidity and heartburn and indigestion. It also helps in keeping your body cool and maintaining your temperature, especially in the hot and humid months. It helps improve lactation as well.
